Case Logic QPB11 - Case For Digital Photo Camera (K23999) Category: Camera Bags and Cases

My only complaint is that it does not come with shoulder strap. Yet, there is a ring on which you can attach a cord/rope something like that and create your own shoulder strap.Case Logic QPB11 - Case For Digital Photo Camera (K23999) Category: Camera Bags and Cases

Q-See QSD6204 4 Channel MPEG4 Network DVR

I did not test the networking functions yet but so far my only disappointment was the motion detection. It DOES NOT work well. Don't even bother trying all the different settings. I left mines on record all the time :(
A better buy would be the Q-See QSDR008RTC which is an 8-channel DVR and it is not that much more expensive.
Beware that this DVR DOES NOT have a VGA port so good luck trying to connect it to a computer monitor. Buy this product if you want to output to a TV alone (2 outputs are supported).

Sony SVR-2000 Digital Video Recorder

Looks and works great. This Series 1 TIVO is a rare one that can be used without a monthly Tivo subscription. Nice way to tinker with Tivo generally see how it works without a big investment or commitment. Just go to Manual Record. Without a subscription you can still pause and rewind live TV, and set manual recordings just like a VCR (for example every monday at 6 PM..or record current program..or schedule a recording for a certain date and certain time and certain channel for any length of time for a one time recording) You can also do the same by simply selecting "Repeat..poor person's Season Pass..alttle humor here on Amazon). Will do repeat recordings you have selected as long as you want..not just a couple weeks. Will do a whole season for you of say "Oprah" or "Desperate Housewives". If you would like you can have a program recording and watch a pre-recorded program or live tv at the same time by splitting the cable source..one to tivo the other to tv.
PRO..Works with CABLE..DIRECT TV..OR DISH NETWORK.
CON..DOES NOT WORK ANTENNA WITH OVER THE AIR PROGRAMMING.
You will not get a guide or be able to do season passes without a subscription. All you need is your handy TV Guide or TV Listings from the Sunday paper to do Manual Recordings without Tivo Service. Subscriptions are still available for series 1 if you want to do that it will work fine and then you will get a Tivo guide and Tivo Season Pass too.

Sony SAT-T60 DirecTV Receiver with Tivo

The only flaw is that I did have to send it in for repairs... twice. And yes, Sony's Customer Service was truly terrible. When they shipped the unit back, they also didn't include all the cables, etc. that I had sent along with it, so I had to wait until they sent those accessories. I think I had to pay something like $85 in various shipping costs, but ultimately I've had the unit for at least 5 years and it is still in everyday use.
Nowadays the units have more features - network connectivity, a better organization of the list of recordings, etc. But I don't think I'd really use the network feature. The better organization would be nice. However, since I paid the $250 lifetime service, we're sticking with the Sony T60 for a long, long time.
I gave the unit 4 stars despite the repair woes because, when the unit has been working, it's been awesome compared to the other boxes offered at the time. Enjoy!Sony SAT-T60 DirecTV Receiver with Tivo

Atomik DVR Expander 1 Tb (1000gb) for Comcast & DVRS - BLACK

I have to add an update. While it does work as described above, I have noticed that my dvr does not recognize the hard drive after a few days. I then have to manually switch the drive on and then off again. This is annoying. I think this may be because I was sent an external hard drive instead of a true dvr expander - the hard drive probably goes to "sleep" and therefore the dvr does not recognize it, while a true dvr expander does not go to sleep. I have therefore ordered the WD dvr expander and will now use this as a back up hard drive for my computer - at least it will not be a total waste!Atomik DVR Expander 1 Tb (1000gb) for Comcast & DVRS - BLACK

TiVo TCD540140 Series2 140-Hour Digital Video Recorder

PROBLEM #1: Won't change channels or changes to the WRONG channel!!!!
The direct line from Tivo to my cable box gave out after 3 months. They provide an infared eye device that you can tape (thats right TAPE!!) over the eye on your cable box to basically trick the thing into changing to the right channel. Sometimes it wont change the channel or will change to the wrong channel. No fun when you get in your comfy chair to watch a show you THOUGHT you were going to watch, only to find your Tivo sent you to the wrong channel for 2 hours.
PROBLEM #2: Must have a landline telephone connection (THIS WAS THE DEAL BREAKER).
This is a hidden problem that pounces on you without notice. The Tivo must contact the mothership periodically to update the channel listings and times. If for some reason it doesnt update...you will get a "To Be Announced" notice on your TV guide. Which means that you might as well not even have that channel. Your favorite TV shows wont get recorded because Tivo doesnt know they are even on!!! This is a problem you have absolutely NO control over. If Tivo cant talk over the phone line for whatever reason....you're screwed. This did it for me. The dang thing couldn't communicate over the phone and I lost ALL of my channel lineups for weeks to come. That means the Tivo will just sit there and record nothing even if the show you want is playing.
PROBLEM #3: Forced commercials
So there you are...watching your show minding your own business when Tivo wants to change the channel to receive "Enhanced Content". Whoa that sounds important, I guess I should let it change the channel right? Well, welcome to a few hours of infomercials. Yep thats right, Enhanced Content is infomercials. If you are up at 2am, then you can override the Tivo to watch something else, but while you sleep, guess what your Tivo is doing? Bringing video junk mail to your fingertips.
PROBLEM #4: Failure to record.
After depending on a Tivo for a while, you begin to forget when your favorite shows come on. Thereby forgetting when its due to be recorded. Should you discover one of your favorite shows didn't record, you can do research on "Recording History" to find out what happened. A few times (not too often) the Tivo JUST DIDN'T RECORD IT!!! No reason given.
Do yourself a favor, skip this albatross and get a DVR from your cable or satellite company. It may cost a few bucks a month, but you are paying for peace of mind. It wont be long before this Tivo goes the way of the Beta-max, the 8 trach and Blockbuster Video stores.TiVo TCD540140 Series2 140-Hour Digital Video Recorder

Blackmagic Design H.264 Format Video Recorder

Over the space of about two weeks I have converted our entire (large) collections of VHS tapes over to H.264, which is a huge saving over the time it would have taken to bring them in as DV and encode them to H.264 using iMovie or something similar. I have a Sony Media Converter and had tried that for a few TV shows, and it is a painful route because H.264 is a resource hog. However, this unit converted them in real time and at a quality that is on-par with the original tapes. What I did was:
1. Connect the VCR to the video converter by RCA jacks (it does support component or s-video, if you player does).
2. Connect the video converter to the laptop USB-2 port
3. Install and update the software.
4. Select Full Res and then change the bit rate from 2.0 to 3.5MBPS**. It does not make a huge difference, but I have a lot of hard drive space.
5. Check how long the movie/show plays for, add 1-2 minutes, and type that into the auto stop box on the converter.
6. Start the tape and then press the big red record button.
7. Walk away and leave it to record.
** Options are available to tweak sound, color, brightness and cropping, but in most cases I just used the default settings.
It really is that simple and the quality is great. I have seen a number reviews complaining about how bad the HD quality is when this is not designed for use with HD. You can record from HD sources, but if the unit tops out at 3.5MBPS, it is not going to handle 1080p or 720p for that matter without some losses even though the AppleTV configuration option is available. You have to use the right tool for the job and this is superb for standard definition quality inputs such as VCR or most none high definition television signals. Having said that, if you accept it has limitations you will be happy with the price performance of this little units, even with HD signals, if you are planning to view it on an iPod/iPhone or something similar. Consider that more advanced encoders such as those by canopus can costs hundreds of dollars more, and generally require a two step process to get them in to H.264, and without a H.264 accelerator, that step can take huge amounts of time compared to this realtime unit.Blackmagic Design H.264 Format Video Recorder

Moxi 2-Tuner 500GB HD Digital Recorder

- Very good value--many features and substantial capacity, at a cost of
only $100 more than that of just a TiVo lifetime subscription
- No subscription or rental fees
- First-rate customer support
- Easy to use
- Reliable
- Delivers clean 720p HD video through 30' HDMI cable
Room for improvement:
- Initial shakedown problems
- Netflix requires PlayOn software running on a PC
- Occasional "channel not available" errors when scheduling programs
from Moxi website
- Cannot change series recording options from Moxi website
- Tuning and menu navigation controls balky (though playback controls
respond instantly)
- Always on--no low-power standby mode
- PlayOn software for PC is clunky, e.g. cannot fast forward/rewind videos
The first Moxi I received was functional, but made a soft, high-pitched whining noise that I found too annoying for our bedroom. Moxi support said this was probably normal, but that they'd monitor the box for a few days to confirm. Two days later I received an email saying that there was a disk problem, and included an RMA number for returning the unit. The replacement unit did not make the whining noise.
A second problem was loss of the HDMI output signal from the box every few days, requiring reboot. Moxi support provided a workaround to use until the problem was corrected by the automatic software update applied in late January.
I also contacted Moxi support by phone or email regarding several other issues that were either minor or not directly caused by Moxi. In every case, the first person who responded was understandable and knowledgeable.
