When I went over to High Def, I purchased a Tivo HD XL unit to take advantage of HD. But if you're not planning on the investment and hassles of upgrading all your equipment, the Series2 180 hour Tivo is an excellent choice. You may think 180 hours is a lot, but I, for one, record baseball games, and I've had to add one hour to each recording (otherwise the game would time out just at the top of the eighth inning). Do this for a while and you'll be bumping up against the ceiling of 180 hours without any effort at all. I am in love with the Tivo service, and consider the DVRs the cable companies offer to be very poor by comparison. Tivo keeps a record of what you watch, and then offers you alternatives it thinks you may like. This service has led me to some very happy experiments. (BTW, Tivo erases its suggestions before touching your preferred shows.) Setting up to record your favorites is easy and intuitive. Some shows that have changed their time slots, and Tivo catches up with them. You don't even need to know when or on what channel your show is! The two-channel feature allows you to record two shows at once, even if they overlap, or watch live tv with full Tivo functionality (freeze frames, going backwards to hear a line again, etc.) while another program is being preserved for you. Also, I can download movies from Netflix and Amazon, and they're ready to watch instantly (and with NetFlix, for free). Tivo is simply a different experience in viewing pleasure. You'll love it!
